Britons choose pets over partners!

British people love their animals so much that nearly two thirds would ditch a date to take care of a poorly cat or dog, according to research. While 63% would rather look after an ill pet, 42% would break up with any partner who forced them to chose between "me or the animal".

A survey by M&S Pet Insurance found just 21% of married or civil partnered adults would put their vows before their cat or dog, and 12% of co-habiting people would get rid of their pet for their partner's sake. Only 11% of unmarried people would give up their furry friend if a partner did not like them, while 52% of women said their other halves came second. However, just 26% of men would choose a relationship over a pet.

M&S head of insurance David Wells said: "These findings are not surprising as Britain is well-known as a pet-loving nation. Pet-owners often have a close bond with their animals as they are often a predictable presence in our ever changing lives; providing unconditional love, emotional support and companionship. Therefore, when a new partner comes along it is not surprising that they need to love the pet as much as the person."

Sustainable Tourism Charter for the best bits of Cornwall

The Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (making up over a quarter of the County and in which Helsbury Park is located) has formally been awarded the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism by the Europarc Federation. Europarc is the voice of Europe's protected areas with over 400 members in 36 countries, who themselves manage the 'green jewels' of Europe's land, sea, mountains, forests, rivers and cultural heritage. The aim of the Charter is to increase awareness of and support for Europe's protected areas and to improve the sustainable development and management of tourism within them.

Having sustainability at the heart of our business, as many do here in Cornwall, has contributed to this prestigious award. Thanks to all our guests for their support with this strategy.

Helsbury Park Dog Photo Competition 2010 Entry 22

Debbie Byford and her family stayed at Helsbury over Xmas, she said: “We recently stayed at Helsbury in Marhayes Cottage for Christmas. We had a challenging time leading up to the break so it was an exhausted family that arrived at Marhayes, but it was worth it. The cottage was fantastic and the thoughtful Christmas decorations made it complete. We could feel the stress melting away and Boycie had a great time running amok in the bottom field and opening his Christmas presents and everyone else’s! Every time we went out to explore Padstow and Port Isaac, he would come back exhausted and would fall asleep on my sister’s lap in the car, as you can see!”
